Crowns & Bridges

A crown is placed on a tooth that is heavily decayed to stop the tooth from fracturing or needing to be extracted. Crowns can be made from several different materials, gold and porcelain being the most common types.

Gold is strong even when it is thin and less tooth needs to be drilled before taking the impression and fitting the crown.

Porcelain is usually the material preferred for front teeth but can also be used on back teeth. Porcelain can be colored to appear very natural and blend with other teeth.

Bridges allow Dr. Young to replace lost teeth with the use of a denture that attaches to the teeth on either side of the damaged tooth. The disadvantage to a bridge is that the teeth next to the damaged tooth also have to be prepared in the same way as the damaged tooth to accept the bridge. Bridges can be an alternative to a dental implant.
